The Nerd Fountain

Nerd Fountain is not a first look-driven outlet, instead we are a podcast and blog that reviews and interviews designers, developers, and publishers from multiple industries to deliver both an inside perspective and a human touch from behind the closed doors that drive nerd culture. We also discuss mid-life dating, give advice, and answer emails. Shows range from The Nerd Fountain's main feed, which features specific discussion points, paired usually with a tabletop or video game review, followed by casual conversation. Other shows include Interviews and shows from the road between Jeffrey Norman Bourbeau and other collaborators.

Happy New Year.

Or whatever. It's May, I guess? And you're listening to the latest and greatest from the minds of the tabletop industry. You won't find as much raw unfiltered nonsense from the creators of your favorite board games anywhere else.

In this episode, Jeffrey Norman Bourbeau Interview Diamond Dan Dineen of AEG (Alderac Entertainment Group)

They discuss nickname origins, the card game Radiant which is based on MOBAs. (Radiant was the working title, and the game was  still in development), and dating moms.

Hello my good buddies,

This podcast features a recorded panel from Metatopia 2016.

On this panel we feature a large amount of Q+A with the audience while also discussing our personal failures and issues arising from kickstarter, customer service, shipping, manufacturing, and many other problems we experienced while working in the tabletop industry.

We also list off some great resources for new designers and publishers to check out with tons of great advice, in addition to what we provide during the panel.

The panel's official description:

"How to Learn From Mistakes and Delays: Don't Let Your Failed Kickstarter End Your Career" presented by Jeffrey Bourbeau, Mark Sierens, Matt Fantastic. This panel will focus on how to learn from failures and delays in the board game industry. We will highlight how one should not let a failed Kickstarter be the end of your career, and discuss some of the many other issues that arise from delays in both production and shipping that should be accounted for when producing a game, which can lead to customer and client disappointment."

This episode features the fopllowing panel recorded at Metatopia 2016:

"UI and UX in Tabletop Games" presented by Laura Simpson, Chris O'Neill, Anthony Amato. The cards, boards, charts, and components of your game are the User Interface that enable players to play and learn your game. Game Design didn't end when you built the rules, but extends through the entire process of graphic design. Our panelists are graphic design and user experience professionals, and they will drill into the process of designing the UI (User Interface) of your game products.

This panel is a great listen for those of you looking to learn how how to best optimize and create interactions between your players and the games you are designing, or if you are just interested in how these concepts are applied in modern game design.

Hello my Meeples,

Power Jeff here!

I had to get this into your ears before I head off to the Origins Game Fair later tonight. Maybe you can check it out on your way down.

During this interview Rob Daugherty of White Wizard Games explains everything there is to know about Hero Realms, the new Star Realms: Colonies, and Epic's Organized play which boasts extremely large cash prizes (and I would assume easy competition if you know what you are doing).

Hopefully I can check out some this Hero Realms content down at Origins next weekend!

The new hot summer jam is Nerd Fountain and you have come to the source.

This week we discuss the Darth Vader Comics and Novels, Blizzards new team-oriented shooter "Overwatch," Jeff compares two headsets: the Hyper X Cloud II vs. the Steele Series Siberia 350, we explain how to host a panel, Jeff goes over the panel he hosts, and without even a whisper we say goodbye to the core show...

Also we have a long and heated discussion, again, over Aunt May's sex appeal. Err I mean Civil War.

JM then gets super passionate over the Darth Vader comics and Jeff pushes his buttons like the Emperor.

Thank you for checking us out for an entire year and 10 episodes. We were just starting to get to know you. We will continue to produce weird podcasts, such as Session Impressions, Power to the Meeple, and 2 new shows we have been working on with rotating cast members from the past, including one mentioned in this episode around 51.00.

Star-crossed listeners,

You find yourself once more at the foot of the Nerd Fountain.

This week I bring to you another episode of Power to the Meeple, my informative interview and discussion show.

Power to the Meeple this week features a panel recorded at Pax East 2016 featuring my ex-coworkers Matt Fantastic and Anna Fischer, as well as Shari Spiro and Tavis Parker as they discuss board game manufacturing and the processes involved.

It was a great and informative panel that had the audience laughing and learning. Which we all know are the best kinds of panels.

Anyone involved in any aspect of publishing, design, or manufacturing in tabletop should give this a listen.

Hi friends,

This marks my first episode without my backup boys. That's right, this endeavor has become a solo project. Say goodbye the main show. Pour one out for Joe.

But do not fret for I shall be continuing on with Power to the Meeple my interview series and JM will be producing a really great radio play. (I've heard it. It's rad.)

For this episode of Power to the Meeple, I (Jeffrey Norman Bourbeau) was given a hands on demo of Total War Warhammer with Al Bickham Creative Assembly Communications Director. I also met with their PR Manager who was a cool too.
